Cheryl Slocum is a James Beard Award-winning food writer, editor, and recipe developer. She’s spent over 16 years creating cooking and entertaining content and reporting stories about food trends, ingredients and cooking techniques, culinary tastemakers, artisans, and chefs.
She is the senior food editor at Allrecipes magazine and former senior editor at Cooking Light magazine Cheryl ran the food editorial department and test kitchen at Country Living for 10 years. Cheryl worked in a freelance capacity at Martha Stewart Living—where she got her start in food media—following culinary school and stints in restaurant pastry kitchens. Cheryl’s work has appeared in several publications including O, The Oprah Magazine, Epicurious, Martha Stewart Living, Eating Well, and Essence.
Cheryl has a MS in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University and BA from Lehman College where she majored in political science and minored in philosophy. She also earned a Grand Diploma from the French Culinary Institute.
Cheryl grew up in New York’s Hudson Valley and Westchester County and currently lives in Birmingham, AL with her daughter.
